Applications for membership shall be made in accordance with particulars obtainable from the Secretariat and must reach the Chairman of the Executive Committee at least 28 days before the Meeting of Delegates.
The Executive Committee establishes the basic requirements for the designation of "Developing Groups", examines applications for this status and supports such groups while also coordinating the efforts of Institutes, Societies and Individual Members in their endeavors to support them. A "Developing Groups" subcommittee is designated for the purpose of enacting and coordinating these efforts in behalf of the Executive Committee; its chairperson is appointed directly by the President and its members are chosen by the chairperson in consultation with the President and the Executive Committee.
The "Developing Groups" subcommittee is directly responsible to and reports to the Executive Committee. The "Developing Groups" subcommittee screens and recommends applicants for "Developing Groups" status to the Executive Committee.
Group Membership (Non-Training)
The particulars required shall include:
1. A copy of the Constitution and By-Laws of the Group.
2. A list of a minimum of 6 members with the following particulars concerning them:
a. Academic qualifications; or, an explanation of their absence.
b. Analytical training including the name of analyst or analysts and the duration of the analysis.
c. Professional status, i.e., hospital appointments, private practice, etc.
d. Past or present membership of or rejection by any other recognized group of Analytical Psychologists.
e. Each Group uses whatever means at its disposal to ensure the ethical practice of its analyst members and its candidates in training.
f. A binding undertaking to hold in or transfer existing voting rights to the new Group Member.
Procedure for Election
The application shall first be considered by the Executive Committee. Copies of all the above-mentioned particulars shall be circulated to members of the Committee before it meets. In considering the question whether a group is suitable for membership, the Committee must by any means it thinks fit satisfy itself on the following points:
1. That the group in question is a responsible body with aims which conform within a reasonable degree to the aims of other group members of the Association and do not contradict the stated aims of the Association itself.
2. That members of the group should be academically qualified, i.e., should possess University Degrees or some such qualifications as are acceptable to that group as an alternative. Satisfactory reasons must be given for the inclusion of any member in the group who does not possess such qualifications.
3. That members have been adequately trained as analysts. Though exceptional cases may be judged on their merits, the minimum requirement shall ordinarily be 3 years of personal analysis (comprising 240 sessions with an analyst whose training analysis is acceptable to the Association). In addition there shall be a period of at least one and a half years in which the trainee shall see control cases under the supervision of one or
more analysts other than the one conducting the personal analysis. Personal analysis and control analysis are possible only by personal encounter. The trainee shall actually meet with his or her control analysts (at least two) a minimum of 100 hours.
4. Whether the group would be acceptable as a member of the Association to any other group or groups which exist in the same country and which are already members. The opinion of any such group or groups on this point must be obtained in writing by the Chairman prior to the Meeting and specifically mentioned in the report to the Meeting of Delegates.
After completing its deliberations the Executive Committee shall give a full report in writing to the Meeting of Delegates, with a recommendation to accept or reject. The result of the Committee's voting must be mentioned in the report and, if demanded by any member of the Committee or of the Delegates Meeting, a minority report shall also be presented. The Chairman of the Executive Committee shall be prepared to furnish members of the Delegates Meeting with further particulars of the application, if these should be asked for. The application shall be voted upon by the Delegates Meeting.
The group shall be accepted into membership of the Association only if a two-thirds majority of votes is obtained. The voting shall be by secret ballot. The decision shall be final and no reasons need be given to the application group for this decision.
Group Membership (Training)
To establish a training program a Group requires a minimum of ten (10) IAAP members who are available to train, each with a level of experience amongst them that is acceptable to the Executive Committee and have given a binding undertaking to hold in or transfer existing voting rights to the new Group. It is recommended that six (6) members have at least five years of analytical experience since qualifying as analysts.
A group applying to establish a training program will submit a copy of its Training Regulations and a list of recognized training analysts. If the requirements for group membership and training are met, applications for both categories of membership may be submitted at the same time.
The Executive Committee shall decide the requirements and the procedure for admission of Individual Members. In this regard, it will observe its own rules, which regulate the following:
- Academic qualification or equivalent education;
- Sufficient analytic training;
- Statements from any Group Members with whom the applicant has been previously involved and/or rejected;
- A finding that the applicant cannot reasonably be expected to become a member of a Group Member. In case of doubt, the Executive Committee will consider the opinion of the nearest Member Groups;
- Examination of personal aptitude for analytical practice;
- Written agreement on the applicant’s part to put himself or herself under the current existing Code of Ethics for IAAP Individual Members and to accept the jurisdiction of the IAAP with respect to ethics.
The Executive Committee shall judge the applicant's petition for admission according to its own established assessment criteria and rules of procedure and will decide whether the applicant meets the conditions for admission to the IAAP. The Executive Committee will recommend to the Delegates the admission of the applicant as an Individual Member at the next Meeting of Delegates. The Delegates must decide by at least a two-thirds majority in the applicant’s favor.
Any person either within or outside the Association may be proposed as an Honorary Member by any member of the Meeting of Delegates. The proposal should be made in writing, with the name of the seconder, to the Chairman of the Executive Committee at least six months before the Meeting of Delegates. The Executive Committee shall make any inquiries it thinks fit into the suitability for Honorary Membership of the person proposed. The Committee shall then make a report to the Meeting of Delegates, recommending that the person in question should be accepted or rejected for Honorary Membership. Acceptance shall depend upon a two-third majority of votes.

The long awaited publication of the Correspondence between C.G. Jung and Erich Neumann promises to be a landmark event in the history of analytical psychology. The Jung-Neumann Letters, edited by Martin Liebscher, is due to be published by Princeton University Press early spring 2015. To mark this important event, an international conference is being planned, to be jointly sponsored by The Foundation for the Works of C.G. Jung, the Neumann family, The Philemon Foundation, The International Association of Analytical Psychology, and The Israel Institute of Jungian Psychology.
