Capetown, 16. Februar 2005

Dear DGAP Colleagues,

In the name of all our South African colleagues I want to offer our condolences for the death of Dr. Hans Dieckmann.

In 1988 Hans und Ute Dieckmann helped the "Jung Centre" offer seminars and supervision to the first group of analytic candidates. This was our first truly analytic experience and much of what we learned with them remains with us today.

Dr. Dieckmann was also the one who helped us, as President of the IAAP, to become a member of the International Association. The mutual respect and friendship between Dr. Dieckmann and Dr. Vera B├╝hrmann, our founding analyst, are the cornerstones on which we are building today. Dr. Dieckmann was appointed the Patron of the SAAJA in 1993 when we were recognized as an official IAAP group. His interest in the events in South Africa was sincerely and deeply felt to the end.

Dr. Dieckmann's death marks the end of an epoch. We mourn with you and are thankful for all that Hans and Ute have given us.

With cordial greetings from all South African colleagues,

Astrid Berg
Former president : SAAJA
Vice-president : IAAP
