This academic conference aims to build on the success of the first IAAP International Academic Conference held at the Centre for Psychoanalytical Studies, University of Essex, UK in 2002. To this end, participants are asked to look for 'current connections' between existing academic disciplines, research fields and interdisciplinary areas and analytical psychology/Jungian studies in order to provoke 'creative dialogues'. Presentatioms come from the sciences, medicine, arts, humanities, social sciences as well clinical fields in order to explore the interface between analytical psychology/Jungian studies and other fields and spheres of scholarly research.

This conference recognizes emerging disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas as well as established fields of inquiry including classical Jungian, archetypal, and developmental analytical perspectives. The conference also welcomes proposals from practicing artists among many exciting areas of cultural representation that are relevant to Jungian studies.

Conference Themes:
There will be research papers (single, joint and multi- authored), round tables, workshops, poster sessions, the creative arts (film, drama, and poetry), that explore current connections with academic disciplines or between disciplines and research fields and facilitate dialogue. Presentations cover ranges of the sciences and social sciences, the arts, and humanities. In addition to individual and group presentations, workshops, and round table discussions be featured at the conference. These sessions will be interactive panel discussions focusing on dilemmas in theory, practice and research in Analytical Psychology/Jungian Studies.

Part of the conference is devoted to work groups, and participants will explore the diversity of teaching analytical psychology in its various disciplinary locations throughout the world and generate recommendations for future development.

Presenters include:
Michael Vannoy Adams, Deidre Bair, Terence Dawson, Christian Gaillard, David Miller, Renos Papadopoulos, Robert Romanyshyn, Andrew Samuels, and Murray Stein.

Analytical Psychology and the Academy

Analytical Psychology originated in the work of the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961). Offering a comprehensive model of the human psyche, analytical psychology includes a psychotherapeutic approach for improving mental health and facilitating maturation of the personality as well as a theoretical body of knowledge with wide applicability to social and cultural issues.

The proliferation, significance, and potential of Jungian programs in universities has attracted many comments, including the following:

'An explosion of clinical and cultural interest in Jungian ideas has resulted in university appointments in analytical psychology being made in countries such as Australia, Brazil, Japan, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.'

The International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) was founded in 1955 and is the accrediting and regulatory organization for all professional analytical psychologists' groups. The main objectives of the IAAP are to advance the understanding and utility of analytical psychology world-wide, and to ensure that the highest professional, scientific, and ethical standards are maintained in the training and practice of analytical psychologists among its Member Groups. The International Association for Jungian Studies (IAJS) was established in 2003 to promote and develop Jungian and post-Jungian studies and scholarships on an international basis. The IAJS is a multidisciplinary association dedicated to the exploration and exchange of views about all aspects of the broader cultural legacy of Jung's work and the history of analytical psychology. Through the development of Jungian and post-Jungian studies, the IAJS aims to aid the understanding of contemporary cultural trends and the history of psychological and cultural tendencies.
