Making Public Spaces Intimate (English). Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, Ph.D. (South Africa) Biographical Details : Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela  Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Cape Town. Her doctoral thesis is based on an integration of psychoanalytic and social psychological concepts to analyse gross human rights abuses committed by defenders of apartheid and crowd violence committed by those who fought against the apartheid government in the 1980's. She served on the Human Rights Violations Committee of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa. Her critically acclaimed book, A Human Being Died That Night: A Story of Forgiveness, which has been published in the United States, South Africa, the UK, Germany, and The Netherlands, won the 2004 Alan Paton Award in South Africa and the 2004 Christopher Award in the United States for adult non-fiction “that speaks to the human spirit.” Pumla has lectured at Wellesley College, Brandeis University, Tufts University, and Harvard University’s Radcliffe College. She travels internationally lecturing and giving workshops on her work based on the study of the relationship between trauma and forgiveness. Her research interests are trauma in the aftermath of violence, the role of forgiveness in healing psychological trauma, and HIV/Aids and trauma. Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela
