Welcome to the Fifth International Conference of Analytical Psychology and Chinese Culture, Macau, June 8 to 10, 2012. The theme of the conference is: Dreams, the Symbolic Language of the Psyche, Nature and Culture. The conference is sponsored by the International Association of Analytical Psychology (IAAP), the International Society of Sandplay Therapy (ISST), the University of Macau (UM), the City University of Macau (CUM), and the Chinese Federation of Analytical Psychology and Sandplay Therapy (CFAP).

This letter has been e-mailed to the Presidents of IAAP Group Member Societies, to IAAP Individual Members and to Developing Groups and Router liaisons. Presidents of IAAP Societies are asked to circulate this invitation to the members of their Society and Developing Group analysts and liaisons to "DG" participants. Other colleagues, guests and conference participants are asked to forward this e-mail to people they know who may want to participate in the conference.

The conference will be held from 8th to 10th June, 2012 at the University of Macau, and there will be two days of pre-conference workshops from June 6-7, 2012 at the same location.

Macau is an amazing city with beautiful hotels and delicious food. Fishermen from Fujian and farmers from Guangdong were the first known settlers in Macau. It was known as Ou Mun, or "trading gate," because of its location at the mouth of the Pearl River downstream from Guangzhou (Canton). During ancient times, Port City was part of the Silk Road with ships loading here with silk for Rome. Today Macau is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, and, like Hong Kong, benefits from the principle of "one country, two systems." Macau has an international airport. Nearby there are two additional international airports: 1) Hong Kong International Airport with a ferry from Hong to Macau (about one hour); and 2) Guangzhou International airport with a shuttle to Macau about 2 hours. In the case of Guangzhou International Airport you may need a visa for the People’s Republic of China depending on your nationality.

IAAP and ISST co-operated for this international conference. Joe Cambray (IAAP President), Tom Kelly (IAAP President-elect), Angela Connolly (IAAP Honorary Secretary), Alexander Esterhuyzen and Rie Rogers Mitchell (ISST Co-presidents), Murray Stein (Past-president of IAAP), Luigi Zoja (Past-president of IAAP), Ruth Ammann (Past-president of ISST), Kazuhiko Higuchi (President of the Japanese Association of Sandplay Therapists), Hu Fuchen (Professor of Daoism), Brian Feldman (Past Chief of Clinical Psychology, Child Psychiatry Department, Stanford Medical School), Liu Dajun (Professor of I Ching),Shi Jiqun (Monk of Chinese Buddhism), Heyong Shen (President of the CFAP) are the plenary and main speakers.

There are about 12 panels, chaired by Harriet Friedman, John Beebe, Robert Bosnak, Eva Pattis, Geoff Blowers, Wang Haowei, Yang Pei, Yue Xiaodong, Shirley Ma, Liu Dan, Yang Shaogang, and Yang Guanxue.

The conference will have the following pre-conference workshops:

2. Robert Bosnak: Embodied Imagination
3. Allan Guggenbühl: Mythodrama: Using the Power of Stories and Myths in Psychotherapy
4. Brian Feldman: Contemporary Jungian Child and Adolescent Analysis
5. John Beebe: Psychological Types and Jungian Analysis
6. Eva Pattis and Luigi Zoja: Expressive Sandplay and Jungian Analysis
7. Ruth Ammann: Sandplay Supervision Group (limited)

Following the conclusion of the conference there will be three post-conference trips available to mainland China. A five day trip is planned to Beijing. A second four day trip is planned to Shangdong Province, Confucius home city. And a third trip related to Chinese Zen Buddhism is planned to Tai Mountain, Gongdong Province. The trips will include five star hotels and roundtrip airfare.
