Congratulations to the IAAP

on its 50th birthday!

Dear Fellow Members of the IAAP:

The Officers of the IAAP have great pleasure in reminding you that today is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the IAAP, on July 26, 1955, in Zurich, on the occasion of Jung’s 80th birthday.

Recent past IAAP President, Murray Stein, writes of this event as follows: ‘On this day in 1955, a group of some 25 analysts met in Zurich under the leadership of Prof. C.A. Meier for the purpose of creating an international organization that would house groups and individuals who identified themselves as Jungian and who had received training from Jung himself or one his designated students. This was the culmination of several earlier attempts to gather the members of the field of Analytical Psychology into an international network. Because the initial meeting took place on Jung's 80th birthday, for which analysts had gathered from many parts of the world, C.A. Meier proposed that the new organization be presented to Jung as a birthday present. It is reported that Jung received this gift gratefully and allowed himself to be named Honorary President for life.’

All the Officers join Murray in expressing to you their great pleasure that today we celebrate 50 years of growth and evolution within the IAAP. We look forward to many more decades of the same as Analytical Psychology seeks to make an impact on the 21st century as its members did so well in the 20th.
