The Book of Symbols
A new book from ARAS: The Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism The Book of Symbols is being translated into German, French, and Spanish. Published by TASCHEN
November 2010 Hardcover: 810 pages ISBN-10: 3836514486 ISBN-13: 978-3836514484 Reflections on Archetypal Images The Book of Symbols combines 322 original essays about particular symbols with images from cave art to contemporary art. The thoughtprovoking texts and almost 800 beautiful, full-color images come together in a unique way to convey hidden dimensions of meaning. The Book of Symbols illustrates how to move from the visual experience of a symbolic image in art, religion, life, or dreams, to directly experiencing its personal and psychological resonance.
To order the book go to the ARAS website www.aras.org and click on Amazon.com. (Any item you buy from Amazon.com through the ARAS website will bring 6% to ARAS.) Become a member of ARAS Online, and you will have access to a unique archive of 17,000 archetypal images and accompanying texts.
"Poised at the brink of consciousness, from the depths of the psyche images come alive as living symbols and portend new possibilities. The Book of Symbols is a reliable compendium of potentially transformative images and essays, an essential guide to symbolic images for therapists, artists, art historians, designers and all explorers of the inner life. Highly recommended." James C. Harris, MD, Professor, Johns Hopkins University Art and Images Editor, Archives of General Psychiatry
