Sylvia Anne Hoagland, 1936 – 2022

Sylvia Anne Hoagland

After a decades long battle with cancer, AGAP member Anne Hoagland died on September 21st in Portland, Oregon at the age of 85.

Glamourous and socially gifted, Anne could connect with many different types of people. No one would have thought that she had suffered severe abandonment and neglect during most of her childhood. Yet she was also someone who would not give up. She seemed to meet the right people at the right time. Her marriage with Karl K. King, Jr. was life-long and mutually supportive.

After her children were grown, Anne knew that her life was not yet over. She studied for an MA in Depth Psychology and Mythological Studies at the Pacifica Graduate Institute. She also completed the BodySoul Rhythms® Leadership Training Program of the Marion Woodman Foundation. In 2011 she graduated from ISAPZURICH as a Certified Jungian Analyst, Diplomate degree, comparable to a PhD in the United States.

Anne had a huge spirit and zest for life with endless energy and strength to overcome every challenge she encountered. She managed that rare balance between responsibility, love for family and friends and the readiness to listen to that inner voice that opened not only dark areas of her childhood but also new horizons in personal and professional relationships. While she could still be immersed in a rich social life, she followed her dreams and understood the necessity to become more conscious as an individual.

Anne was truly an authentic person. Whoever met her felt they were seen and appreciated for who they are. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband and four children.

On behalf of AGAP and ISAPZURICH,
